Only a Filipino could totally understand...

Only a pure Filipino could understand the law of the Philippine road or the lack of it. Above is a picture of a 2-lane road. Yes! Exactly, a 2-lane road.

There are a number of peculiar things and ways in the Philippines that one way or another made us curse or disappointed. But this homeland of mine is also a country of bliss.

We still find ways to smile and laugh even if we aren't as organized nor systematic as the other countries. Don't get me wrong. I would really love to see my homeland progress but I just am so amazed of how we became so tolerant, resilient, humble, cool-minded and most of all strong amidst our chaos.

From the heavy traffic to the slow processes---we still find time to smile. Although we have a lot of mishaps, we still got hope. We always find beauty of the unknown, light in the dark and clarity in the gloom.

Thinking about this made me so proud of being a Filipino. I am a Filipino. We laugh through our worries and dismays after learning from them. We may not get them on the first try but we surely would on the next. We acknowledge the fact that we have a lot to learn and we stay positive in doing so.

Help me out. Here's the list of things that only a pure Filipino could totally understand:

1. Traffic - There isn't actually a lot of discipline in our way of driving. No helmets at times when driving motorcycle. May have a helmet but just carried on the arm. Not a lot of people use the practice of indicating before turning. Parking wherever and whenever we want, even how narrow the road is. But miraculously there aren't as many accidents that you think there would be.

2. Queues - Standing for hours to get a simple request only to be told you need to be on another queue to wait for more hours. But as usual, we do this with a smile and use this as a chance to get to know the person at your back or the person in front.

3. Garbage disposal - Hmmm.. This is sad but yes... We aren't so good at disposing our garbage. I think we must try to take pride on what we have. Aftercare, peepz.

4. Strong faith - In times of difficulties, we grip harder on our faith. We hold strong on our faith that even during calamities, we stay calm knowing that we have a big God.

5. Close family ties - Family will always be with us not just during celebrations but most especially during the difficulties.

6. Eating with the use of our hands - There are dishes that we especially like eating with rice that makes it a lot more palatable without the use of any cutlery.

7. Food - We celebrate lives through dishes. Anniversary, birthday, baptism, graduation, achievements---we get together and we eat. A day is only composed of three meals and ahemmmm a lot of snacks in between. Hahaha.

8. Beliefs and practices - Modernization has never totally wiped out our Filipino beliefs and practices. Don't cut your nails at night, wear something red and with polka dots during the New Year to start your year right, don't wear red in the funeral and the list goes on...

We have a beautiful country and unique culture.

Filipino!
